After more than a year of field testing and refinement, the Elevated Research Designs Cedar & Vanilla Scrape Rope Starter was developed to help kickstart natural scrape activity before the rut.
Our unique blend of cedar and vanilla is designed to pique a deer’s curiosity, encouraging them to investigate and begin working a scrape. Whether you’re using a scrape rope, grapevine, or an overhanging natural branch, this formula helps establish a location that deer can adopt as a community scrape.
The ideal time to begin is late summer or early fall. In many areas, curious fawns are often the first to investigate and begin pawing the ground, followed by does. As the season progresses and bucks become increasingly territorial, they naturally take over these established scrapes, adding their own scent through forehead glands, urine, and tarsal glands.
As deer begin actively using the scrape, the Cedar & Vanilla scent will naturally fade. At that point, allow the deer to maintain the scrape on their own rather than continuing applications.

Directions
- Select a scrape location where deer naturally travel.
- Hang a scrape rope, grapevine, or position beneath a suitable natural licking branch.
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Apply the Scrape Rope Starter liberally to the rope, vine, or branch.
- Clear leaves and debris from the ground beneath to expose fresh soil.
- If desired, add your own urine to the scrape to further simulate natural activity.
- Reapply only until deer begin actively working and maintaining the scrape themselves.
